Tonight, I ended the holiday seeing my third movie of the weekend...bliss! My Week With Marilyn starring Michelle Williams was very good! I wanted to show more of the set because I loved the house where Marilyn stayed in the movie but I could only find photos of the cast. The story is told from the perspective of Colin Clark, a young film assistant - and son of art historian Sir Kenneth Clark - who got a job with Sir Laurence Olivier's production company. Marilyn is portrayed as fragile and dainty as a doe at times while also showing the white hot reason men found her irresistible. The clothes were fun to see - lots of pencil skirts, lady like dresses, silk scarves and dark sunglasses, high heel pumps and slinky fabrics draping every curve. I read in the Vancouver Sun, Michelle gained weight for the part but her face was too full when the hips were the right size, so they used padding in the hips and across her buttocks instead. Oh the problems some women have right?!? Anyway, you should see the movie. It is a delightful confection of old Hollywood glamour and emotional vulnerability all rolled into one. Michelle Williams is superb.
