If you can peel yourself away from crying bachelorettes and fired "B" stars, I highly recommend watching Smash on NBC. It's been a long time since network TV has made such a good series. Steven Spielberg is the executive producer so I imagine that has a little something to do with the show's success! The storyline is about the making of a Broadway show about Marilyn Monroe as well as all the drama that comes with living in New York City while trying to become a star. American Idol runner-up, Katherine Mcphee, and quintessential stars, Debra Messing and Anjelica Huston are outstanding! Set designers were told to make the apartments as realistic as possible and used furniture from places like West Elm, CB2 and Room & Board. Combining modern and traditional styles, they tried to capture the true personality of the characters and (mostly) matched their apartment sizes with their job description. Does anyone remember the ENORMOUS apartment of the 25-year-olds in 'Friends'? I don't know New York real estate well but please! The songs are great, the characters are rich and I love getting an insider's view of a lifestyle different from my own. Now...who is craving a really expensive coffee and a bagel?
